Exchange 365 and AD - Mail enabled security groups

Does anyone know if this is possible with exchange 365?

We've tried every option we can think of but we just can't seem to have a security group that's also an email group.

 

I've seen mention of a trick that can be done in dir sync, but no specifics

We just stick an email address in AD, run a sync and it shows up in Exchange and we can email it. Does this not work for you?

Doesn't appear to be no.

We've added an email, run a sync, but still when we try to email it comes up as an un-emailable address

Have you put the email address in the proxy attribute?

Hmmm no, the group in question doesn't have a proxy attribute set, nor will it let me set one.

I'll poke it some more and report back

speak of the devil, after about the fifth run of the sync today it's picked the group up and is now emailable

Just out of interest, were you testing with outlook client or the web interface?

My Boss tells me that if you turn the security group into a universal group, you can then mail-enable it.

With both.

It appeared in OWA befor the desktop client, and still isn't in the desktop client address list, but doesn't throw an error if we put it in anymore.
