bitznpcz Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Can anyone recommend a decent laptop for around £450+VAT. Tried lots of makes and models recently and they all seem quite poor quality and slow. Do any resellers swap the HDD for SSD to boost performance? Looking for 15" screen, i5, 4gb RAM, Windows 7 or 8.1. Thanks in advance.
bitznpcz Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 @ictdirect they will sort you out. Thanks. Do they do new as well as refurb?
newpersn Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Don't think so. But you get more your money's worth.
sonofsanta Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 @ICTDirect_Dave to tag correctly If it's new you're after, Lenovo ThinkPads are the sturdiest I've come across, much better than HP. Easy enough to put an SSD in yourself, if you've not got too many to do (they're very easy to open up and swap components, because they're proper business laptops). We have some with i3-4000, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD and they fly. If you want a big chunk of new and don't have time to do that yourself, I suspect @VeryPC or @Stone_Charli may be your best bet for custom sturdy laptop. 4
Stone_Charli Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Hi @bitznpcz, sounds like our NT310-H would do the job here - NT310-H | Notebooks | Stone Group - which we can do with an SSD. If you'd like any more info on prices, etc. feel free to drop me a PM with your details and I can put you in touch with an account manager Thanks, Charli
VeryPC_Colin_M Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Hi Kevin, Give me a shout today and I'll sort you out. £450 is not a problem whatsoever on a new i5 laptop with all the trimmings anymore. Cheers, Col
bitznpcz Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 Thanks for all your replies... I'm not in that school again until Tuesday and will have a chat with the ICT Co-ordinator then. @Stone_Charli and @VeryPC_Colin_M - could you please drop me a PM with some options/prices. Thanks, Kevin 1
sonofsanta Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 eBuyer have some very good offers on at the moment on Asus & Lenovo laptops - in particular, a Lenovo with a Core i3-5010U @ 2.1GHz w/ 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD for only £270, and even better (and the one I've just bought for my daughter for her GCSEs & video editing) a Lenovo with a Core i5-5200U @ 2.2GHz w/ 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, AMD R5 GPU and 1080p screen for only £400. Can't think I've ever seen a 1080p laptop that cheap before.
ITGURU Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I've got a Fujitsu A544 i5 with SSD and upgraded the 4GB to 16GB and couldn't be happier with it's speed. Fujitsu LIFEBOOK A544 - 15.6"... | VFY:A5440M2511GB | £397.99 | Insight UK Rough price, but if you look around, can get cheaper!
