Removing modern/metro apps

Hi there -

 

Has anyone managed to hide all the modern apps from the start menu? Even when I have redirection enabled & "hide all common program groups" it insists on shoving them everywhere. This upsets me greatly

Like Windows 8 they are a bit weird, I think you have to remove them by powershell.

ok thanks - I think the biggest issue I have is that they can't be moved or hidden short of removing them. That's just stupid - I have no issue with things like the photo viewer staying, but rather not have students use the built in calendar/mail apps (They're pretty awful)

I've wrote a script to remove them - But it's only per user & not system wide. I can only imagine I'd need to run this on what would become my "default user.v2"

This is what you are looking for:

 

Start Screen Layout - Specify Default in Windows 8.1

 

You login and customise the start screen how you would like it to be by default, unpin the apps you don't need, pin the ones you do. Then export the start screen layout with powershell and use a GPO to deploy it.

 

Just a note, I have never used it but it seems pretty straight forward, and I would expect Windows 10 to work the same way.
