Has Office 365 E1 for Faculty changed?

Hi guys,

 

I have noticed today that my users have started getting notifications in Office 365 to download a free copy of office on up to 5 devices. This is all well and good but we aren't on E3 for faculty so we shouldn't be able to access this. I have checked in the admin app and my users have the correct E1 licence assigned to them, so is this some sort of mistake on Microsoft's part?

If you have EES, staff (Like Students) are eligible to a free copy of Office 365 Pro Plus.

Ah okay good to know! So would this give them the same benefit as E3 for faculty then? I really am confused so sorry if this is a stupid question

 

Edit: Yes we have EES. So this possibly explains it.

It would give them them access to the Office 365 ProPlus software, not the other extras.

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but on a similar vein, I've been told by our existing EES Supplier that if we move to another Supplier, our Office 365 licences would be terminated. Any truth to this? As far as I can see, our agreement is with Microsoft, not the reseller. Certainly our E1 Faculty and Student plans were setup without a reseller, so they shouldn't be affected, and by the looks of it, our ProPlus plans can be renewed with any licence key from any provider, would that be correct? Anyone switched EES supplier with Office 365 and had any issues?

We switched and haven't had any problems as it's added onto your EES then it's part of that unless you cancel that too.

Sounds like scare tactics tbh. Out of interest who is your current supplier?

 

All of our E1 licenses were 'purchased' through the Portal in the admin center, rather than through our resseller.

I'll leave out the name just in case it causes more hassle than it's worth.

 

Good to know other people have switched without issue

 

Looking at it, I believe our E1 licences were purchased for us by the Council through the portal before they transferred the tenancy over to us as I can control the renewal and no. of those licences freely.

Late to the party, but we changed EES supplier and still have all of the office 365 licences - no reregistration or anything else required. Just signed the cheque made payable to a different supplier.

Hey, Its not quite E3, its just Office 365 Pro Plus which is one of the benefits of E3. If you did ever purchase E3 you would get 50GB archiving for email and other exchange and SharePoint enterprise feautres.

 

If you did friction free (where you go to office.com/teachers to get Office 365 Pro Plus and it links to your EES), you get a license added to your tenant call Office 365 Education license for Students/Faculty (it adds 1 million of one and 500,000 of the other) it is a E1 + Office 365 Pro Plus license).
