localzuk Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 So, I have done quite exacting needs for a new pair of headphones. My requirements are: Must be over ear, not on ear. Must not crush my ear in any way (I have both hearing aids and glasses so really don't want discomfort), so the cups have gotta be on the large size. Must have a microphone as well as the headphones. I don't mind wired or wireless. Anyone got any suggestions?
Norphy Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) How much do you have to spend? If you end up going wired, is the mic requirement for a computer (possibly a separate jack) or for a phone (tri-pole jack)? IF the latter, is it for an iPhone or something else? If it wasn't for the microphone requirement, I'd suggest a pair of Sennheiser HD558s. I have their predecessors, the HD555s and they are very loose fitting and comfortable. /edit Alternatively, if you're not too worried about fidelity, maybe these would be worth a look? I have a pair of these as well, they sit on your cheekbones and conduct sound to your inner ear through there. I have hearing loss and they work really well for me. Edited May 29, 2015 by Norphy 1
localzuk Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) I'm happy spending whatever's necessary really! The mic requirement is for both... So, whichever way I go, I'll end up adapting for one or the other if wired. Phone is Android (so no weird iPhone requirements to worry about). Wireless would be more convenient but wired is usually better overall. Has anyone used the AKG K545? Amazon have a rather amazing offer on them as the bronze ones are apparently discontinued. http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-Closed-Over-Ear-Headphones-Universal/dp/B00E89AV44/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1432919600&sr=8-2&keywords=K+545 - £79.99. They're listed on AKG's site as £169.99 still, and Amazon has the other colours at £139.99+. Or even the AKG K845BT (wireless). The white ones are £139.99 on Amazon, compared to £227+ for the black ones. Edited May 29, 2015 by localzuk
pcstru Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I have a pair of AKG 702's. No Microphone. They are very comfortable and the sound quality is simply outstanding.
Garacesh Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I've repeatedly heard very positive reviews about Monoprice gear, but can't say I've used them myself.
localzuk Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 I ended up ordering a Sennheiser MM-550 X Travel headphone/headset. Looks ideal for what I want - the big test will be if they are comfortable to wear.
localzuk Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 They've arrived. Incredibly comfortable. They make my hearing aids squeal whilst putting them on, but once on they squealing stops. Could happily wear them for hours at a time! Big test will be audio quality when I get home - can't really test beyond my use as a phone headset at work. I like the removable batteries - they have the charging bit built in, so you can have one charging without needing some form of bulky charger - just a micro usb charger.
