pcstru Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 An unusual request has revealed that we seem to be missing attendance data from 2005 (and prior to that). It's not the kind of thing that you check very often or at all and it has apparently been missing for some time (oldest backup we have is 2012 and it is missing from that). The break is so clean that it is highly improbable that it can be due to a corruption or other technical issue. It either was never collected (I'm told it was) or some deliberate action (or bug) has cleared a rather precise set of records. Are there any other CMIS/ePortal users with data going back to or beyond 2005 who could check they still have their data?

pcstru Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 @djrscally, It seems to be that there are simply no attendance records for that dataset or anything before that. There are records from 2006 on. It is before my time but my suggestion that perhaps the data wasn't gathered back then, was discounted. It's the kind of thing that could be borked in an upgrade without anyone noticing but if you have data, that is fair evidence that it wasn't a supplier issued upgrade (or at least not one that was generally issued).
bobsmith Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Have you gone into SQL to look in the tables? The other thing to do is check that the attendance calendar is set up in that dataset, if it isn't it's a good sign it wasn't collected in CMIS. When they say "it was collected!" unless they are the MIS manager they may be mistaken in their belief. It could also be that sessions were recorded (AM/PM) but not lesson by lesson. The chances of one academic year's worth of attendance going missing from the table seems slim to me. 1

It might have been deleted in order to comply with the DPA by not retaining information that is no longer needed... If it's just one year's worth, it seems likely that someone deleted it by mistake though 1
