Hi,

I'm interested to know what other LGfL users have been doing since the LGfL introduced their security filtering options that restricts access to remote access tools like LogMeIn and TeamViewer and also webinar software like GoToWebinar. We run a separate ADSL line secured with a Smoothwall Express and issue usernames and passwords and then reconfigure client proxies to use it when they need to. That works ok for most products, but causes problems for the increasing amount of CPD delivered remotely. Even training companies are recommending teachers use a 3G dongle if they are in an LGfL school!

I know from http://files.lgfl.net/LGfL/Policies/LGfL%20Security%20Guidance.pdf that I can get the HT to opt for Category 2 and all he has to do is " confirm my agreement to take full and sole responsibility for any issues arising from the use or deployment of any remote access products enabled Category 2 within, or from, my school."!

Having helped enough staff who, on their home computers, have answered calls from Microsoft and Symantec and accepted remote help to 'fix' their computer I appreciate the reasons for the restrictions, but I think it seems a little like a nut/sledgehammer situation and the LGfL seem to have no interest in improving or developing access.

Ditto here, but it's not the remoting in that concerns me (it tends to be done by more technical people!) as much as the inability for staff to access CPD sessions that are becoming more frequent.

We've gone Category 2 on LGFL but we leave all remote access tools blocked in the web filter until we need them. If a teacher has a CPD session then as long as they inform us (which they do) then its no problem. We've had a few issues but on the whole its worked.

I advise all my schools to go Category 2 as well as I use Teamviewer to support them, and as with Fiza I keep everything blocked in webscreen unless it is needed. Seems to work very well.

Thanks for all your responses. Am I right in thinking then that there is a list of remote access tools added to webscreen? Or is it a single on/off tick box?

Would anyone be able to share a screenshot?

Unfortunately no tick boxes!

Its same as everything else. You need to allow the URL required for the remote access tool.

We've gone Category 2 on LGFL.

How do you go to Category 2? Does this allow the likes of Log Me In?

I always found it to work really well and was excellent for connecting to a session and sharing it. Can't think of the word, but if I rdp, it kicks the current user off of the screen. LMI would screenshare, which was far better .

The Head Teacher needs to login into the Atomwide Support site and under "My account" there is an option for "Declaration Management". When you click this you get options for various declarations in a drop down. Select "Access to Category 2 remote tools".

Only the Head can authorise this. All NCs need to get the USO Tags to allow Category 2 access.

Thanks for the clarification. No problem re USOs as I already have those dished out, though head does not have one.

Would this allow tools like Log Me In? At present we have Log Me In Rescue which will work for external providers, but was hoping to use Log Me In pro for my own uses, mainly internally to be honest, for easy connecting to computers staff are already on, when they need a little help.

The Head would need a Tag to enable Remote Access Tools.

Not sure about LMI Pro internally. Have you thought about using VNC internally?
