Internet questions regarding sixth form and BYOD policies. Could you share with us?

I have been asked to gain some feedback from other schools regarding two things.

1. Do you allow your sixth form less restricted internet access?
   
2. Do you have a BYOD policy? Would you be able to share it with me?
   

 

Basically we are getting a new web filter (Lightspeed) and will now be able to differentiate our filtering more. Do you allow your sixth form access to site you don't let the rest of the school e.g. Youtube, Twitter etc? Do you do it based on time of day?

 

We will also be launching a BYOD network with them after summer. Does anyone have a BYOD policy the students adhere to that you could share with us?

1. We allow them access to youtube and pinterest. Otherwise they have the same access as the infants do

2. Our policy for 6th form byod covers year 9 and above. roughly summarised it is: If a teacher allows it you may use your device in class (phones/watches excluded). IT will help you get your device on the network and show you how to access files, email etc (in reality we email them a link to a guide at the start of the year). No printing from byod. Mustn't cause a distraction in lessons. Devices should be locked in lockers and not left in bags during non-use time (like pe). Internet access is via the school wifi only. 3g/4g tethering/hotspots is prohibited. Warning first, End of day confiscation second, device ban as third punishment.

Has anyone else got any advice? We were thinking of allowing the sixth form a bit more freedom due to the fact they were now sixth formers.

We do much the same. All filtering should be age appropriate (of cause your definition of that may be different to mine) and therefore our sixth form have access to more than lower year groups.

 

Our policy is much the same of that above, may be used when directed by the member of staff in the room for educational purposes. Attempting to circumvent the filtering (which includes 3G/4G etc.) will result in losing your right to use your own device.

 

We allow all mobile devices. Not all students want or can afford a tablet, so we'd rather they used their phone than miss out on a learning opportunity.

Yes the sixth formers have a looser internet policy and yep they are allowed YouTube and we're thinking of allowing Twitter if the SMT agree,

We allow BYOD as we have borders on site but we don't have a formal policy.
