theriver Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 So, what if an adult walks into the school wearing one of these gadgets?
rickjames Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Please do tell of whatever incident you've come across, it's only fair.
Arreks Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I'd tell them they look awful and that I need to escort them off the premises on account of their fashion tastes.
TechMonkey Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 So, what if an adult walks into the school wearing one of these gadgets? I'm sure it was on here I saw it or saw it linked, but the best advice I've seen is to make policies on functions rather than devices. So have a camera policy, have a phone policy, have an MP3 policy, etc. You can then mix and match to get what is important covered rather then be caught short not included the new bleeding edge tech. So Google Glass has a camera function, your policy says cameras are not to be used by unauthorised personnel around pupils and either stored in a bag or handed into to reception, so they must take it off. If the parent doesn't like that then either the Head needs a word or they need to leave. Nothing different in Google Glass than any other mobile device when you get down to it. 2
Roberto Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Nothing different in Google Glass than any other mobile device when you get down to it. Exactly - this is a safeguarding issue regarding the use of recording devices around children, not a 'this month's gadget du jour' issue.
CAM Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 What about Smartwatches? Smartphones? All have video recording capability too and can be done surreptitiously.
Sagima Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 We have one for the students - it should be in airplane mode and not recording or distracting themselves or anyone else and if they do punishments and confiscations will result!
Sagima Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I'm not in enforcement thankfully - the teacher's and pastoral people get the awful task of dealing with these things. The most I'll do is disable their ability to connect to wifi if I'm asked. They are mostly worried about watches distracting people by receiving messages and vibrating/beeping/flashing during lesson time. 1
