[sims] Putting SIMS / SQL in Simple Recovery Mode

Hi all;

 

I have discovered that my LDF file is 149GB vs 8GB MDF for my SIMS database

 

I discovered it was set to Full recovery mode when Capital installed this a while back (I thought their scripted backup truncated log files too?)

 

I should have kept an eye more often but I have flipped it to Simple mode for now.

 

Would it be ok to then run the indexing patch that I can grab hold of from Capita to shrink it over half term?

Yep should be fine. There was also a routine, that just shrinks the logs. I'm not sure if it's available any more. It was called Shrink DB log, a batch file, which runs the SQL shrinkfile command on your system.

Check Capita's My Account for it, or ask your support. Just make a backup before hand. If your recovery plan is just to restore a full backup, then you don't need the logs anyway, so you could do it one evening, no need to wait, it's a very quick job - but depends on your appetite for risk
