As previously mentioned ... we *cannot* authorise each and every person that applies to join. We cannot use the category of .sch.uk in the email address as this excludes suppliers, universities, schools that have different domains, those working in education outside of the UK ....

This is before we get into the situation of who the heck is going to check it all.

We have also discussed whether you want students to be able to view things. Security by obscurity is not the best thing in the world and the reason we have areas like 'Security' and 'FFS' is so that they are not searchable via web search engines.

If you don't want your students accessing the site in school then block it on your filters (presuming you can and that you can then bypass those filters).

Having previously been on lists and forums where you require to be recommended or your identity has to be checked ... it can kill an online support group. A major bonus of EduGeek.net is that we are willing to have anyone join the site and take part in conversations ... if a student is interested on how things work then fine ... get them on your side, get them to join the club. They will either get bored and move on ... or be a boon to you.
