Windows 7 Offline Files and Windows Server 2012 R2

I replaced our ageing 2003 server with a new server that is installed with 2012 R2.

 

My problem is that when users logon to their laptop, it's pretty fine in terms of speed. However, when they load Internet Explorer it takes an absolute age to load and when it does load, typing anything in a text box doesn't appear until after a minute.

 

Since upgrading to 2012 R2, I thought it would be a good time to implement DFS.

 

Does Offline Files not work well with DFS? I know this was a major problem with XP.

 

Can anyone tell me what settings they have configured for their Offline GPOs, please?

Read this, and the associated KB article. Do not attempt an unsupported configuration, as data can be lost.

 

Generally in my experience, it is a bad idea to redirect AppData as this can result in the sort of behaviour (in many different applications) to the one you describe. This may be the cause of your IE issue.

 

Also watch out for auto caching of redirected folders, it can be a killer on log on times and network/server load in certain configurations.
