Remove Securus

Hi , can someone PM me the details on how to uninstall Securus? We no longer use it (we are moving to PCE)

 

We've got it installed on 400 machines, I just want to pull it off and push PCE out.

I'm still having trouble with this. It's the v6 client. It was initially rolled out via GPO and then built into machine images (from an msi) I've tried removing via GPO (with the 'uninstall key' in the registry) but I get a 'this action is only valid for products that are currently installed' message.

If all else fails, ask Securus? The method discussed by PM worked fine for me. So either they've changed something recently, or, the setup at your place is different to how we had it.

This is part of the VBScript I wrote to update from v7.00.24 to v7.00.30, run as a startup script via computer GPO.

 

You need to find the ID for the installer, to look it up in the registry and then uninstall; if you open up regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ you can run a Find for "securus" and it should come up. The key name will be something like {11B677BC-75DC-42AB-8FF1-034E93FD0C56} - that's the ID for v7.00.24 that I've used below, so anywhere that key pops up in the script, replace it with what you find.

EDIT: whether or not that will work given your particular error message, I don't know... I wonder if trying to reinstall from the MSI would trick Windows into realising it is installed, thus allowing you to uninstall.

Thanks for the script, I'll give it a go - although I wonder if the MSI reinstall trick would uh... do the trick. It kind of makes sense!

The Securus key I can find is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

I think that's just because you're running 32 bit Windows, then, the Wow6432node key is for x86 programs running on an x64 OS. Didn't even think about that, sorry!

Ah, got it off now (hopefully). I had to reinstall from the MSI, kill securusn in msconfig and the registry and then run MsiExec.exe /X{uninstall key}

 

Not sure if it's completely gone but it'll do for now until I've got chance to build completely fresh images in the summer

If that doesn't work then you could always pop in a GPO to block the running of securusn.exe :-)
