HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2015.04.0

Hi

Bit of a shot in the dark but has anyone got a copy of the above iso I could keep an off-site backup for them? Building a couple of refurbished Proliant servers with Windows 2012R2 and need some drivers and BIOS update off there to stop the on-board fans running in helicopter mode...

Thanks for any assistance

I believe you now need an active support contract to get those, as the SPP contains system board firmware.

You should be able to get the drivers individually from their site, a pain I know but otherwise you'd be in contravention of the licensing terms.

Problem is the downloads page only goes up to Windows 2008 for drivers and although 2012R2 isn't officially supported, the HP forums say the drivers I need are on the new SPP. Was trying to source an official version rather than searching on the dark side of the net for a dodgy mirror...

Cheers

We're running both ML350 G5 and G6 servers on Windows Server 2012 R2. Have had 0 issues with this - just used the latest available Service Pack at the time and all drivers and software installed without any issues.

Only part I had to re-configure manually was the SNMP Traps settings so that the data showed in the System Management Homepage.

These are refurbished HP Proliant SE316M1's that didn't ship with any SP's so had to find the drivers the old fashioned way (very similar in build to a DL160 G6). Got everything working, really good servers but need to flash the BIOS and a few firmwares to stop the fans spinning at 100%...

I had similar issue with G6 servers but was a combination of hardware and firmware. Fans were running at high speed as a base unit install, and had to add an extra fan for it to then run at normal speed.

Hello guys,

I've just bought couple of the same servers (SFF version). I can see that there is another folder with a little bit newer version of the firmware - 2015060. Can I use it or it is better to stick to the link above?

And the last but not least - Andrew, are you happy with these servers? I'm planning to install on them the latest ESX hypervisor.

Hi

The SPP gets re-released approx every 3 months but TBH I haven't re patched my servers firmware/drivers since April other then the usual Windows Updates. There has been very few changes to the ISO in that time. For me, it falls in the not broken, don't fix it category.

As for recommending the servers? I have 2 running the school CCTV system, very heavy load and they have yet to drop a packet. Very pleased with them, as workhorses and file servers they are excellent for the price. Unfortunately, not really played with VM on them so although I know it installs, I haven't any real world experience as to how they would perform.

HTH

I can't remember specifically. What I did was explode the iso onto a USB stick, then run the installer in Windows (about 10 news drivers were automatically installed after it had done it's hardware analysis) and once the server had rebooted back into Windows, shut it down and rebooted from the USB stick. That loads a linux environment that then installed another 6 firmware drivers for various on board kit. When that had finished, the reboot was about 70db quieter...

Mine are on the way but I've already subscribed for this thread so I'll update you if there is anything wrong with the latest ISO. Btw, after downloading this ISO, I'm not longer able to connect to the ftp server. @caffrey, if you have any issues accessing the ftp, let me know and I'll upload you somewhere SPP2015060.2015_0605.106.iso

Hi

I built my spare server this morning to document the process (might be getting another couple soon...)

1) Boot from SPP on USB stick and update firmware as prompted (2 on my server) and reboot

2) Boot from Windows 2012R2 USB install stick and install Windows

3) Post install, insert SPP USB stick and run launch_hpsum.bat

4) Install missing HP drivers (17 on my server) as prompted by SPP and reboot

5) Enjoy near silent server :)

6) Run Windows Updates (130 when I checked this morning...)

Hope that helps

Andrew

Last night I was installing one of these and I've used the latest SPP image. It upgraded only the raid controller firmware and the ILO2. Can you tell me what BIOS version you are running? Mine is R02 released on 30.03.2010.
