Simcfc73 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Me again, the new build took 12 hours to install and now it's stuck and won't do anything with the start menu.. Loads of errors in the logs and nothing starts... Sat here watching the cog spin saying restarting, guess that's what you get with trialling stuff
Patrick Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Yeah, it's a poor build really. This one has the most issues for me. The icons in the start menu just don't work, clicking on them just does nothing. I'm certain a new build is coming, as it is Microsoft's BUILD event tomorrow, they normally release something at the event, so a new, more stable build with new features is what i'm hoping for.
DalekSec Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Mine took from about 4pm to 9am to start working and then it had a lot of problems, is working fine now after few more updates
Simcfc73 Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 I took my laptop to work, installed Windows 7 on it then booted into 10 and it popped into life. Very flakey
Gatt Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Just got it up and running on my laptop Not got a 10061 ISO so had to install 10041 first Upgrade went fine and took about an hour to update everything Oddly, the 10041 wouldn't install from DVD, (it complained about missing Mass Storage Drivers, even though I could browse the Local Disk and DVD) but went in fine via SCCM. The buggy start menu is rather annoying and hope they fix that soon. The resizable start menu is great as is the return of transparency.. But the new Recycle Bin icon is MUCH better!!
Gatt Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Looks like its not as rosy as I first thought I seem to have an issue with not being able to open anything on the taskbar or launch any Metro (or whatever they are called now) Apps. I can do Win+Key to get the likes of Run and Explorer, but I cannot open the start menu and I cannot launch Settings or the Notifications Bar, etc.. Win32 apps launch fine from Run or from Explorer. I knew about the bug with the Start Menu & Win32 apps, but I can't even get into the start menu now!

Seems to be a bug that quite a few have experienced when upgrading with parent/child accounts set up and then the parental controls refuse to let anything launch on any account. I had the same happen on my tablet getting an error like the one below in Event Logs. Activation of application Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy!App failed with error: The operation was blocked by parental controls. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information. The only fix I could find for it was to do the 'Refresh My PC' thing which wipes the Users / Installed App's etc and start again. Saying that there are four new Windows Updates out this morning, have seen no word whether they fix this or not but might be worth downloading and installing manually and see if it helps.
Gatt Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I've been able to get in with a Local Administrator account (Hurrah for domain joins!) and running Windows Update at present Pretty sure I don't have any Child accounts I have my Microsoft Account, and a Domain Account that is linked to my Microsoft Acccount (so essentially thats in twice!).. Will try and remove the Microsoft-Only account can't remove my Domian Account as I'm off the domain at present
Simcfc73 Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 Well its ruined my laptop, I left it updating overnight and failed, the when it says its restoring previous versions it reboots after 29 minutes and starts again.
