Noise Cancelling Headphones

Just looking for some opinions on Noise Cancelling Headphones, I've never used them or even tried them.

However after the next holidays or at the very latest after summer one of my work cupboards will be in the back of a classroom, at the moment its an IT suite. And in this room ( small cupboard) I'm going to have to have the door shut more obviously, but I will also have to HP rack servers running. I have powered them up a few times and they are more noisy then the tower I have at the moment. So would noise cancelling headphones work in this situation?

Then tell your employer to find you somewhere else to work, away from noisy servers.

 

You should not use hearing protection as an alternative to controlling noise by

technical and organisational means.

Noise cancelling headphones aren't the answer. Your options are either re-locate yourself/the servers, or get a noise reducing rack enclosure for the servers. The APC Netshelter CX are very good, used them a lot in my previous job.

I'm with the idea that if something is loud enough to consider noise cancelling headphones, you should be fixing it, rather than covering it up.

Noise cancelling headphones may also end up with you not hearing a fire alarm and as a result, dieing from excess fire. That's not exactly a scenario I envision you being too thrilled with, so I can only parrot the previous posts

Just powered everything up and using db volume app on iphone its constantly at 47-48 db with a few peaks of 52 so no where near the 80db in the government guidence
