Machines suddenly starting to Wake on LAN

Morning All,

 

It seems our machines are suddenly starting to WoL at about 08:00am every morning and I have no idea why!

I took over the network about 2 weeks back so I'm still getting to grips with everything, but it seems something has suddenly started waking up all of the PC's on a morning.

 

Anyone know how I can trace the source? It's going to be a tad difficult I suspect.

What has been changed recently if it's only just started happening?

 

Two big candidates would be SCCM or Spiceworks. "if" it's only just started

 

You could use wireshark to track down the source of the broadcasts, but would probably be easier to just look at recent changes tbh.

Spiceworks sounds like the big change - It's been on the network for about a week or so. Only thing is that the WoL Feature is disabled in Spiceworks' settings, unless something in spiceworks is causing it to "Ninja" a WoL procedure.

 

We don't run any 2012 / 2012r2 servers and IIRC SCCM is not part of 2008 and lower.

There's a Wake On Lan feature in the scan settings, aka when scan runs turn machines on to ensure they're scanned.

 

Guessing you may have that set and a scan at 8am?

I can see the Wake on Lan Setting in the Scan > Advanced Settings, but it's set to off and our only scans are going off at 10pm

 

I've completely disabled the Auto Scan feature now, will see if that changes anything in the next couple of days.

I wish - Impero actually gave you great options for WoL when I last used it.
