FPV Spanky Up North, Rochdale Canal

Hi All,

 

Such a great holiday. All the family travelled up north from Devon to Sowerby Bridge near Manchester for a barge holiday on

 

the Rochdale Canal. With ages ranging from 8 to 82 between the 14 of us and also 3 dogs we had a good team to get both

 

barges through the 80+ locks in under a week.

 

 

While on the barge I got a total of three flights done which were all on the same day due to the rapidly changing weather.

 

I used an empty drinks bottle strapped to the top of my quad as a floatation device just in case the quad hit the water,

 

you can see it in the shadow of the quad at about 3:13 in the video.

 

 

All people in this video are family members and were aware I was flying around them within close proximity to the locks.

Did you build your quad yourself or buy it ready-made?

 

Can you buy ready made frames and then add your own electronics and RC gear, this way each mini quad is a custom version of the same frames etc. Building your own gives you so much more information about how things work and also help diagnose any issues in the event of a bad crash. You can buy ready to fly quads like the Phantom etc but people tend to treat these as toys because no effort was made to get it flying, just unboxed and charged the battery.

That first section on the Summit pound is about 500yds from my house ! Good to see you had nice weather for it. Neat bit of flying through the changing room porch as well.

This was the only day we had on the week were the weather was good enough to fly and it was such a pleasure to finally see the surroundings in all their glory, a beautiful part of the country you live in. Shame about the guy who owns the pub at the summit, we had 14 thirsty people ready to spend money but seems he only opens when he 'wants too' which is weird for such a tourist based location.
