I'm slowly getting there with the setup of our Moodle server, bit by bit.

One bit that is now on my list is access to home drives and shared drives from Moodle. There's a plugin in the database that Overnet data has published but it stops at Moodle 2.7.

Are there any other options? It isn't a must have so we aren't going to pay for the feature (if push comes to shove, I'll end up writing my own plugin).

That plugin does work with 2.8.5.

Source: we're using it.

Just be aware that the share visibility documentation is a bit unclear. If you want to restrict visibility* of a share to a particular group, create a cohort and use that to filter on as "course creator" only applies to the "whole of moodle course creator" role.

*so kids don't get their page cluttered with stuff they can't access, for example.

Oh, and if you can browse the shares and create folders but not upload anything it's down to ClamAV settings, either in Moodle itself or in the Overnet plugin. The guy who wrote it (still writes it?) roams around Edugeek occasionally.

Does the share visibility not work with roles then? I just get an error every time I try it, saying a pipe is missing.

My notes from when I was fiddling with it read:

An initial reading would appear to mean you can use "teacher", "course creator" and "manager" roles to restrict viewing the shares, but that's only partly true.

System-wide roles (manager, system-wide course creator role) work fine. Per-category or course roles (teacher, course creator) don't.

A more reliable way is to create cohort and then reference it using CH[nameofcohort] and add staff to it.

Someone actually has to have logged into Moodle in order to be added to a cohort. Since we automatically provision on login via LDAP, no login = no account.

So (for example), the below would allow managers and anyone who's a member of the "staff" cohort to see the share in the block.

I'm still getting an error about pipes:

share definition missing pipe symbol \\IPADDRESS\resources:R[manager],CH[Teachers,Non Teachers,05,06,07,08] share definition missing pipe symbol
