I suppose it's down to personal preference on this one, and depends on how light weight a distro you want to go for.

 

Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop for instance?

I'd recommend Fedora when it comes to linux distro's although I have never tested it on a netbook with such low spec before although I can't see it being a problem with most distro's as long as you only install the core requirements along with a GUI like gnome.
