Pebble

I picked up a Pebble Steel while I was in the US last week and I'm loving it, but feel like I don't really know what it's capable of.

 

I love that I can have custom faces (I'm coding my own at the moment, will share when it's done) and I'm using Notification Center to customise which notifications make it to my watch, Pebble Tasker to run a couple of simple customisations, Music Boss for the customization options...

 

What apps do you find most useful?

I love mine too! PebbleAuth for 2 step verification codes for Google without getting my phone out in front of kids. Used to use Awear for notifications and replies but standard OS does that now. Love the standard music controls for driving. Camera KK is cool but can't say I've used it much in real life!

I backed the kickstarter recently for the pebble time so I'm looking forward to getting that in a few weeks, will keep any eye on this thread for apps to look into.

Will definitely give PebbleAuth a go - was hoping something like that existed!

 

One thing that is bugging me about notifications - there doesn't appear to be a universal way of making them private. I use Textra for SMS and let that send the notification itself, as it matches the privacy settings in app. WhatsApp however has no privacy settings so every time I receive a message, it's displayed on my watch for all to see - potential for fallout there is risky! I thought I might get around it with some Tasker scripts but I don't know if it's just my phone or the way I'm setting it up, but it doesn't seem to trigger the action every time which is annoying... any tips there?

 

@halbaradkenafin - jealous! Pebble Time looks awesome, I'm going to wait until it's been out a while before I take the plunge on that one I think though. I had no intentions of buying a Pebble to be honest, but I got it for $180 (roughly £120) in Florida so thought it was as good a time as any to get myself one

On mine I currently have:

 

Misfit - Nice little fitness tracker thing. Doesn't require an app on your phone as it's all self contained. Tracks your steps, calories and amount of sleep. It's free too!

 

Pebble Dialer - Allows you to make calls from your Pebble. I find it useful when I'm out and about with my headphones (handsfree) in.

 

GymSets - My most used app! If you're a gym goer it's awesome. It's a really simple app that allows you to set your rest period timer, click the button after your set and it will start the timer and vibrate once your rest it up. It will also count the number of sets you've done etc.

 

PixelMiner - Nice little game! Not useful in the slightest but really addictive.

 

Lastly, have a look at PebbleBits. It's custom firmware for the Pebble. Since I picked it up i haven't reverted back to the standard stuff. They usually implement really useful features way before Pebble do (such as the quick access etc).
