Courses for web design

Got a colleage that dabbles a bit in web design but he wants to take it further so he asked me if there were any courses he could do, my answer was a shrug of the shoulders! So....does anyone know of a good course he could do to expand his knowledge on web design, wants to look at html, java, etc

Web designers deal with the overall look and layout of websites whether these are large corporate sites consisting of hundreds of pages, or sites for small businesses comprising just a few. Either way, it's the web designer's responsibility to make decisions about every visual aspect of the site.

I've yet to see an courses that tell you how to deal with clients !! Some can be an absolute nightmare.

Is he wanting to be a designer and make things pretty or code and make them work ? I work with a couple of guys who are awesome in their fields and together they produce awesome sites but neither can do the others work.
