Problem with HP2600n Laserjet + Print Server Spooler

Agreed Simon - the CD install will work a treat, but it's not practical to visit 50 or more PC's with the cd. The 2600n installed on the server and a simple batch file to install at logon SHOULD work.

 

If the printer is being used by just a few users then the CD wizard (local printer) option is the best.

I had the same problem and tried unchecking those options without success. What did work for my case was to change the port. Since its on DHCP the IP changed to another. I don't know if this was mentioned before but thought it couldn't hurt.

Under the printer properties for the HP2600n I went to the ports tab. I selected the port that was been used and pressed Configure Port. Since the ip is assigned by DHCP I saw that the ip address on the printer was diffrent than it said for that port. So I put its current IP, pressed ok, and it started to function.

I've had this problem too - the 2600N suddenly decides it's going to go and get a DHCP address instead of using the fixed IP it was assigned. Something to check if you find your printer has suddenly stopped working.

try disabling bidirectional support - this should work wonders! (im sure someone would have recommended that) - its a known issue with the drivers on this model, apparantly the printer 'talks back' to the driver automatically so doesnt need the bidirectional support to be enabled.

For this very reason I always reserve the IP address on the DHCP server for the printers MAC address. That way if it does decide to ignore it's static IP it'll get given it anyway!

Don't know if this will help anyone else but I just had a problem with one of these printers dropping offline. The solution that worked for me was to remove SNMP from the port settings. Took me a few hours of faff to pin that one down - hope it helps someone else.

Thanks for the feedback people! Glad I'm not alone on this one.

 

For everyone's reference to resolve this issue, I used a standard TCP/IP port (not an HP one), the latest drivers (6.2.1) and the latest firmware 20070716. I'm using this printer with 2003 Server R2 and XP clients only. There are no Vista clients.

 

 

 

Once the printer was installed on the Print Server, I shared it out as usual and unticked just bidirectional support. This made all the difference! Pushed it out using Print Management and my support requests went down to pretty much nothing!
