Anyone aware of this? Five years from now, Boris' anti-diesel agenda will kick into effect!

Ultra Low Emission Zone - Transport for London

Basically, if you have a diesel vehicle you could find yourself paying ULEZ charge of £12.50 a day on top of the Congestion Charge and the Low Emission Zone charges on top. A triple whammy of fees to drive in Central London and that's before the extortionate parking!

But who would want to take their car into London?

Not me, it's easier to get the train into Euston and use the Underground

May well be, but they must sing from the same hymn sheet as everyone else, otherwise having car tax look at one thing and this other hokey pokey system at another just makes them look even siller than they do now.

Besides they best not change it, I just bought a new (diesel) car mostly for the £30 a year tax!

However I'll take that article with a pinch of salt. Mostly because of "cause cancer" and "World Health Organisation says" - two things that make me instantly write off the truth from any article!

Diesels tend to me more efficient than petrol engines and produce less CO2, but they also produce particulates which evidence suggests are damaging to health (and which petrol cars don't produce). In the context of a city, millions of diesel cars is bad news for those people things. That may not be true in more rural environments.

Personally I can't see it mattering much to places like (central) London. They have another 30/40 years and then it will be game over and let the sea have it's way. I guess they don't want to be coughing as they drown.

I don't think any government will allow the capital city and one of the most populated parts of the UK to just flood.

If we continue the way we are going, I don't think they will have much choice.
