Really couldn't say. It did look odd though. Was he 'throwing' the race?

Trust me from bitter experience, no one voluntarily jumps off a moving horse at 25mph let alone when it's jumping...

 

Looking at it the horse changes its stride just before the jump and then ducks left. The jockey is left unbalanced and has nowhere to go other than out the side door....
