I am sooo pleased: Chris Evans strips ahead of TFI Friday's TV summer return | Daily Mail Online

There is quite a bit of talk about this being just a 20 year celebration one-off, which I really hope is not the case as this program was essential viewing back in the 90's, and the perfect pre-pub Friday night viewing. It really got you in the mood for going out and having a good time.

This article in the Radio Times here sums it up better than I could: TFI Friday with Chris Evans might be returning - we celebrate how it captured the imagination of a generation

Did it live up to expectation?

I saw a few minutes here and there, and it reminded me that I've become middle aged, don't go out on a Friday any more and have too much going on to watch TV :-)

Not really. It was more a catch-up, but the music was a bit (lot) of a let down. They opened with Blur, which was fine and also had Liam Gallagher and Roger Daltry doing My Generation but then had Rudemental and some other band I can't remember now who just seemed so bland and soulless in comparison. No life there at all.

This from The Telegraph sums it up best: TFI Friday as it happened: Audiences turned off by Chris Evans' lengthy 'Top Gear audition' - Telegraph

Nice to see it back on the TV, I would like to see it back for specials/small runs if it ever came back, problem before was that it went on too long I thought and started scraping the barrel when people got bored of the show.

Music was ok I thought blur were a bit of a let down, coffee and tv isn't their greatest song I felt, Liam Gallagher and Roger Daltrey where a surprise highlight for me they nailed it, Rudimental were ok, the other band were forgettable.

Grimmy is very annoying I find for me, can't abide him on radio never mind TV, turned off at Lewis Hamilton as it was a pointless luvvy segment that I seemed to find unbearable to watch, he's got no personality at all and seemed a bit unlikable to me.

Yeah, Lewis Hamilton seemed to be on for half the show, but I don't find him a very fun or engaging character at all, especially for a format like TFI Friday.

And when Chris Evans suggested Grimshaw should run a 'new' TFI Friday I almost did a little sick in my mouth. I can't really don't like listeing to the guy and every time I accidentally catch him on air he's always banging on about his time in uni. He's hasn't done anything with his life!

The show cou;d have been a lot better but just didn't deliver. I don't think many 'modern' bands fit the TFI format tbh and suspect the two which were booked were there becasue of record company influence.
