Joomla - template display issue / IE 11

Hi,

 

I've given our school's website a bit of a face lift. I took an Akeeba back up & created a test site. I made a new template by modifying one of the default templates. Tested it in FireFox, Chrome & IE 11 (that's what we have at school) - no problems.

 

I then Zipped up the new template & imported it (and the relevant new images) into my live site.

 

It displays great in FireFox & Chrome but in IE11... it's almost like it can't see parts of the CSS sheet. The nav bar & pages display weirdly.

 

What's even odder is; I took another backup of the live site and created another test site, & it's fine in IE11!

 

... any ideas?

Oh, and I'm running the latest version of Joomla on Ubuntu 12.5

My test sites were running on Win7 / Xampp

OK, after a bit more testing I can *sort of* see what's happening. If I view the website from home (in IE11), it's fine. If at school, I point IE11 to the IP address of our webserver, it's fine.

 

So... at a guess it's a compatibility issue... unfortunately because IE11 broke OWA I've set up a group policy to always add the root of our domain name to compatibility view & this is probably complicating things!
