SwedishChef Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Going to be doing the sims sql migration during the hols. As we already have a supa dupa SQL 2014 running, im thinking to keep the current sims server and just migrate the SQL to the newer SQL platform, and either update the connect.ini or use redirection. Has anyone noticed any problems in having seperate SIMS and SQL servers ?
jinnantonnixx Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) It's perfectly fine to do this. Been doing it for years. - File server, SQL server and Document servers are on different machines. Edited March 25, 2015 by jinnantonnixx

Files make sense, but Document Server - it's rather overkill if you have a server for just document server - also why haven't they (Capita) use FileStream like they've done with FMS and ditched DMS :S

vikpaw Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Define SIMS? S drive, and other gumpf it installs..?
matt40k Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 S drive, and other gumpf it installs..? Was hinting at WTF is the point separating out DMS and SQL when SIMS server is basically a SQL server with a cruddy .net app (dms)
SwedishChef Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 cheers. now having to wait on capita and i cant download the migration tools anymore via solus.! Vik i've pm'd ya.
SwedishChef Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 cheers vik, all worked perfectly apart from FMS which we've not upgraded for a few years as we moved away....annoying that it wont migrate it, had to do a manual copy we only have it there for auditing purposes and can be removed next year!
vikpaw Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Ah, ok, sweet. I've found a link for the download now, but if it worked cool )
