Norphy Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Our computers are etched but they're etched by the manufacturer (Stone) on the production line. Other than that, these days we generally don't bother. The stuff that we do give away or sell for recycling is still happily received. 1

Chris_Cook Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 We mark most stuff over £50 or that is desirable for thieves - cameras, apple mice and dvd drives etc. We have found on some newer, more expensive plastics it doesn't etch properly. Viglen are able to do this for us on new PCs, but only the own brand stuff as far as I know. Having stuff nicked is a bigger pain in the bum, although how much this will stop a thief I don't know. We keep stuff till its really old. Never had any complaints from our recycling company. We don't sell it on.
unixman_again Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 We use exactly this product on tablets. For iPads, aluminium compound works well and it also works on some steel backed tablets. As Chris_Cook pointed out, not all plastics are etchable. It's not limited to expensive plastics either; these aren't Hisense Sero 8 Tablet PC. We don't etch desktop equipment, although 8 or so years ago, we did etch the flat screen monitors. We haven't tried recycling etched equipment, be we don't sell on, so it shouldn't be a problem. It's not too messy to apply - just don't get any on your clothes!
