Hi Guys

Has anyone else noticed a change with Youtube when it comes to Safesearch.

We are signed up with Google to make sure that searches are filtered, however it seems youtube may have now been integrated and teachers are complaining all over the place that half of their videos they show in class will now not play as its blocked by safesearch. Does anyone have any information on this or been effected?

Thanks

i have had this a lot in recent weeks, I'm assuming videos are flagged by the community or something - can't really turn it off so theres not much can be done?

We had an issue like this last year when using deployed Chrome.

We disabled Google Safe Search via Chrome's GPO template and the issue went away. As we only allow staff YouTube access, this was acceptable. I certainly wouldn't want to turn that off in the students Chrome settings.

Typical me posting the same thing, I've just got round this by having two GPO's one for students and one for teaching staff with safety off/on as appropriate

Caffrey, does your web filter pick up stuff that Google Safesearch doesn't do any more? As in if someone searched for pornography, would your own web filter stop that? It seems that the rules on filtering are a little grey but I do question whether turning off Google Safesearch, even for staff could be a safeguarding issue?

We got around this by allowing our staff to logon to youtube using their google accounts.

The school has google apps for education email accounts already setup.

I just enabled youtube for staff on our domain.

It allows them to login to youtube and set the safemode to off - its account wide once its set once.

Students still are not allowed to logon to youtube.

@berkshireicttech I've left it at their discretion but lately it seemed like every video was being flagged, only workaround was to use IE, Smoothwall should filter inappropriate content. @siuko Yes this works but if you have the GPO settings set for chrome I think it still interferes. In the GAFE dashboard it looks like you can only enforce safe search for web searches whereas the Force safesearch in the GPO affects Youtube too

Hi Everyone

Just thought I would follow this up as I now have a solution for this

Google have now updated their GP templates to separate "Google Safesearch" and "Youtube Safety". On our old template it was just one control that was Safesearch.

I think this is because Google and Youtube have since linked them together and if you do not update your templates and have Safesearch selected on the older one, it will just turn it all on.

So to confirm the solution to this for us was to download the latest ADM templates for Chrome and set it all back up again from scratch.
