Hatching chicks - Video streaming

Afternoon everyone!

 

The head has asked me to set up a webcam showing chicks hatching from their eggs. She wants the video feed (live) on the website so they can watch from home. How do i got about setting this up with CLEO / BT LS. I'll have a fixed internal IP address from the cam, but not sure what to do with or what to ask BT LS to do with the router. Port forwarding?

 

Anyone set up anything like this before at primary?

Old primary did it with VLC I'm pretty sure. Webcam broadcasting via VLC to website.

 

No ports etc needed as internal (or you using external website?) and if so would be RTP 5004 for VLC at least unless it's changed

We need to this to the schools website which is external. This is why i'm a bit stuck!

If anyone else has to do this, here's an update:

 

If you give BT LS a static IP they will create a webport which is a URL that links to the that IP address. Really happy with the way they are getting this done. Thought it would be a nightmare.

BTLS seem to have vastly improved recently. I'm really happy with the service.

 

I did an IP camera at home once on an incubator. Worked a treat, saw the first chick hatch and everything!!

I agree. Fast response and they seem to have their act together. Which is quite worrying for people like me..

We had chicks in last week hatching. I was asked to look into streaming but we realised that a lot of children would be using that as an excuse to not go to bed so I set up a motion sensitive camera instead. Worked really well!

 

Have over 8GB of footage but one video stood out well, it was 15 mins long and you saw the progression from Egg to Chick really well. I can post it if needed?
