Good evening everyone,

I keep getting some iPads status greyed out and their geographic location to some random place under Meraki MDM --> Monitor --> Clients. I have tried refresh and check-in but that didn't do anything. Some of the obvious things have been checked for example device is fully charged and doesn't have passcode. What am I missing and should do to make all iPads be 'online' and fix geographic location to realtime.

Kind regards

Have you got the Meraki MDM app installed as well as the certificate ? the app seems to force location on much more with better accuracy here, I could see our iPad 4s instantly to about a 10 metre radius when I installed that recently here. Also if they are in rooms where connection is flaky or they idle it does effect it somewhat I noticed.

It says that the App shortens battery life as it turns location on more, but as long as you get eight hours out of it, its fine on a full school day.

Also I would add - check you have all the firewall ports opened that it specifies on Meraki, I had an issue where they were all greyed recently because of changes to our firewall when we changed wifi provision.

Morning rich_tech, thank you for your kind input. Yes I have installed Meraki systems manager on devices in addition to the association. One of the iPads that I randomly picked to check the positioning and why it was greyed out, it showed "update 2 days ago'. I clicked on "checked-in" and "refresh details" but no luck. The iPad is fully charged and sitting in front of me.

I'll double check the ports.

Many thanks

Regards

Update: I have requested for some of the ports open on our firewall for Meraki MDM and APNs. Here's a classic example, I randomly picked an iPad and it shows green status on MDM but the location is somewhere in Bathampton and we're in Tewkesbury and it shows ("via IP, updated 1 min ago").
