Patrick Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Does anyone know when or how we are supposed to start using the lightspeed MDM tool? I've got a bunch of new iPads and i wouldn't mind using this! Not sure where to login to start using it! Anyone? Ta very much!
Patrick Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Well i feel silly... BT Lancashire Education Service are currently piloting the Lightspeed Mobile Device Management solution and will be made available to all schools in April 2015.
Joanne Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Am I correct in thinking that they will be charging £5 per device to use it?
TomTomGo Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I'm sure on the last Webinar i attended they stated the costs would be covered by the annual Broadband and Online Services bundle. I've been using it since November, with no additional charges to the schools.
klingklang Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Still waiting for this service to become active. Was told November then March then May and still waiting . Just not acceptable for the delay and education projects not replying to emails . No one seems to be able to give a conclusive answer as to when MDM will be live.
Joanne Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I've got a severe issue with BTLS not replying to e-mails recently... getting frustrating wot wot! If the lightspeed MDM has more / better features than Meraki I'll totally move on over.
klingklang Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I wouldn't mind but the Lightspeed MDM is a system ive seen running in other areas of the county and i see no reason for BTLancs to try and turn it into their own Frankenstein's Monster when in actual fact the service as they receive it works perfectly well . Ive spoken with Lightspeed and they agree also
Joanne Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Hahah... frankensein. They are probably locking everything down like they have with Office 365...
klingklang Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 ive 40 ipads with a further 30 arriving this week and probably another 30 by mid November cant use to many paid apps as once swtiched over we wont be able to use again as we are on Apple configurator at moment but with each procurement this proves tiresome to deploy . Think i will take a look at Meraki in the meantime .
Net-Ctrl Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 An alternative solution to consider would be the iboss cloud based MDM solution that can be used independently of the local authority web filter and is only £4 per year or £10 for 3 years per device. If in the future you choose to pair it with an iboss SWG filter then you also get full web filtering on your devices, with the same per user policies on or off the campus network. The iboss MDM features include Apple volume licensing, automatic device enrolment (DEP), filtered app stores and support for Andorid, iOS and OSX. Additionally you can do the usual stuff such as remote wipe of lost/stolen devices, geolocation, removal of unapproved apps, and disabling of device functions such as cameras and more. If you would like some more info or web demo, please PM me and I will be more than happy to help.
LAEStratford Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Dear Patrick, What do you think of Lightspeed ? and have you looked at Smoothwall. looking for a internet filter provider aand its a choice between the 2 systems. Rgds LAE Stratford.
buzzard Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 If you've a Mac, have you looked at Apple Profile Manager at all? We used it to replace Meraki MDM, so far it's the best solution that fitted our needs, and for the price of an app You'll be waiting a long time with BTLSL and the finished offering will be handicapped and probably an additional charge
Patrick Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 Dear Patrick, What do you think of Lightspeed ? and have you looked at Smoothwall. looking for a internet filter provider aand its a choice between the 2 systems. Rgds LAE Stratford. Our LA has rolled out lightspeed for all of county to use. I really like it, it's hosted by county so i rarely have to do anything with it other than unblock sites. Not used Smoothwall so i couldn't give you any more info really.
