TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hello All, We do not have enough seats to cover all our students on Papercut and when our Year 1 students log on they get the client error saying the username cannot be found. How do I stop the client from opening on those students? Via RMMC? Thanks, TomHD
Dkeen94 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Im assuming that these are communal pc's that other students log into?
TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 @Dkeen94 Thanks, yes they are. I wondered whether that might be an issue!?
Dkeen94 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 It could be, i would say if they were just for the Year1 students you could just uninstall the papercut client and it wouldnt appear. I suppose buying more seats for Papercut isnt a solution?
clareq Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 How do you deploy the client? Is it installed on the computers or run from the server? I'd look at how you've got it running at start up - is it a setting in RMMC you can move to a different group?
TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) Yeah sure, had the computers only been used by Year 1 I would have uninstalled the client Buying more seats is an option but I don't think the year 1 students will print much and therefore not economical / money could be better spent. @clareq The client is deployed via RMMC and installed on each computer. Maybe I should look at removing the client via GPO? Edited February 27, 2015 by TomHD
andyturpie Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 We have the client pushed out via a package via RMMC and call it at start up. I would clone your user group rename it to say pupils papercut exempt add members to the group but then omit running the client at start up?
clareq Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 No you don't need to remove the client just stop it running for Y1.
TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 No you don't need to remove the client just stop it running for Y1. That is exactly what I would like to achieve
clareq Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Right, in RMMC you must have a number of user groups. Look through them and find out where the Papercut client is being set to run at startup. You need to clone that group, remove the run at startup setting and put Y1 in that group, which will remove them from the other group.
Dkeen94 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 You can disable Balloon Tips for the year 1's and that should stop the message popping up. This can be done through GPMC
TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 @Dkeen94, the error comes up in a dialog which upon pressing cancel or "X" opens another dialog! It's not a massive issue just confuses the little tykes and holds up IT lessons. @clareq, I am I looking at "Security Groups"? Or something else? Cheers
clareq Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 it's a long time since I used RMMC, but I think so - it's the section that effectively mirrors the GPOs.
TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) @clareq, I think the section that mirrors the GPO is "Registry Policies"? Annnnnd... I cannot find anything related to Papercut in RMMC Edited February 27, 2015 by TomHD
clareq Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Probably - as I say, look for where you have the client set to run at logon.
TomHD Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 I have found the client under Registry Policies>User Policies>Global>All Users>General>Specify programs to run after login. Will have to remove the policy applied to all users and apply it for each group instead. Thanks for the help guys
Edu-IT Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Isn't it calculated by amount of users actually in the PaperCut System? Not the amount running the client? *Confused* Edit: Ah, you've deleted them from PaperCut admin area. I see.
