Ipad App Licensing

I am using Apple VPP for our Ipads, which I know is the way to go. However I keep on getting suggestions of using one account (hence one app purchase) for 10, 20 and even 30 plus Ipads. Even a senior Apple Support Analyst said the same thing, this obviously makes people question why should we be buying an app per device. Schools in the past have been using one account across multiple device and users from personal devices are also used to that and find it hard to understand why we need volume licensing.

 

Has anyone come across a case of software audit of schools which included Ipad licensing or any documentation on this issue. I have read the Apple EULA, but would be good to have some authoritative documentation on this issue.

I haven't. It's really easy to do it wrong I've found.

 

Your best bet is to make sure (as best as possible) that you buy the correct amount of licenses for the number of iPads which it is installed on. That way you are technically covered if an auditor came in. I doubt there would be any school who have done it perfectly and by the book though.

I've had the same where Apple sales people say to senior school staff that you can install Apps onto devices, so those senior staff ask why on earth are so many licences necessary. I just point them to the Apple website which states very clearly what the actual rules are, ie 1 licence per device.

 

Yet another example of Apple mis-selling. I wonder if they used to sell PPI...?

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

 

The major advantage to using VPP is Apple Configurator. In a school with more than about 30 iPads; it becomes a godsend, easily installing and restoring en masse. You also have the advantage of MDM roll out for apps.
