Display PC screen on IPAD

We are not buying an Apple TV but looking at software that would allow staff to display their IPAD screen to the PC and also allow them to control the PC from the IPAD. Anyone know of any software that can do this?

I have looked at Splashtop and Mirroring360

Not used those. But this can do it - AirServer - AirPlay and Miracast receiver for Mac OS X and Windows PC

The two functions you need are sort of opposites, one software can do one another do the other, but not the same!

 

AirServer for displaying the iPad to the PC

VNC for controlling their PC via iPad?

ive got schools running both AirServer - AirPlay and Miracast receiver for Mac OS X and Windows PC which can now do miracast devices as well (subject to a list of things) or reflector Reflector Airplay Receiver - Mirror an iPhone or iPad to a Mac, PC or Android

 

both seem to work jsut with reflector make sure the pc has speakers and they are plugged in or it falls over

Seem to need windows 8.1 for that. We are Windows 7 here.

At home I use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on my iPad to control my HP Microserver (running Windows 8.1), works really well and is free.

We use the same app, but the Android version, at school for teachers to access certain 'Windows only' programs on their laptops (Windows 7) using their LearnPads.

Don't know how to display iPad on PC screen, never had the need to.

I've had a go with Airserver, Reflector and Mirroring360. Now settled with Mirroring360 as it was the simplest to setup and most reliable. Most offer a trial version so give them a go before making your mind up.

We use AirServer in over 70 classrooms now. Works well.

I use AirServer too but the iPad and the PC have to be on the same VLAN for it to work which often isn't the case. Not a problem in my school due to our AeroHive wireless having a built in Bonjour gateway which ties it all together nicely.

 

Also you can't control the PC on the IPAD with airserver, it just mirrors the Ipad screen to the PC so not really what your after here.

 

GoToMyPC, TeamViewer...all of those will control the PC but all a bit fiddly and a bit pointless in my view. The second you try and turn an iPad into a Windows PC / laptop is the day your hair will turn grey and your budget will run out!

I'm a fan of AirServer but might have to give Mirroring360 a go. There's definitely a use case for these tools so teachers can present their iPad screen on the projectors.

 

Going the other way I've tried a bunch of remote desktop apps like Splashtop and solutions from Microsoft and Citrix. The user experience is poor at best and not really playing to the iPad's strengths. Its just turning it into a (not very effective) netbook.

I have been using Doceri in our district which it does desktop mirroring on an iPad along with some Smartboard like features. Most of our staff that have actual Smartboards prefer Doceri to their Smartboard which I found interesting. We also use Air Server for projecting iPads as it is much more stable then the Apple TV's for us.

Sort of the reverse of what you're after but what give actually asked for in the subject...

 

I also use duet, hi plug the iPad into a mac via usb and can use it as a second or third monitor. Great fit macbook air on the go.
