Moblie App to control your Projectors

Has anyone come cross the incident that the classroom projector was controlled by student's mobile app during a lesson and teachers got very frustrated and thought it was creepy Well we did. I did a research on the Internet and realised there are a lot of mobile apps out there allowing you to remote control your telly and projectors. Does anyone know how to configure the projector to only receive the connection from it's manufacturer's remote control? or any other suggestions?

yes there are loads of these apps around - Samsung has one as standard on most galaxy devices.

 

Not ideal but cover the IR Receiver with some electrical tape and manually use the buttons.

I would also be suggesting to the teachers involved that they make better use of classroom control to prevent this sort of thing happening, it is not a technological problem. Phones should be off and/or away.

Some of our teachers have a nifty idea going on here, a plastic pot painted with black lines labelled "PHONE JAIL". Students put their devices in there at the start of the lesson.

Brilliant idea, Synaesthesia! I totally agree this is a behaviour/classroom management issue other than technical. I very much doubt there is a setting on projector menu that can be set to only receive connection from manufacturer's remote. To cover the infrared like Robx suggests is not a convenient option for teachers who always use their remote during the class. Thanks guys for your input on this.

I agree its more a behaviour issue, but if you do want a technical solution, vision do a product to replace the remote with a box that goes on the wall:

It mimics the ir from the remote, but what you could then do is run the cable to the ir receiver, and tape over them, so no other signal can get in. A lot of effort and expense for a problem that shouldn't exist!
