Good morning, I would very much appreciate some assistance on this.

I have set up a VPP account for my school. - Took weeks for Apple to sort themselves out, but finally it is on and working.

I am able to log in to VPP, select the App I want and when I click purchase, it shows in my purchase history with 'Managed Licences' next to it.

I am unable to log in to iTunes any more on my Apple Configurator mac laptop as it says:

"Your Apple ID Can't Be Used in This Store. This Apple ID is associated with the Volume Purchase Programme for Education. Options: Use Different Apple ID or Go To VPP for Education".

My question is, how do I now deploy the apps to my 16 iPads?

Before, I would go onto iTunes, download the app, find it in the library in the Mobile Applications folder, import the necessary ipa file into Apple Configurator and assign it to the iPads.

But this does not seem possible now as I am unable to log into the system to download the ipa file I need.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

Just be aware that you can not use the same ID for the VPP store and iTunes. You need to separate accounts. The VPP account allows you to purchase apps online and the other account allows you to redeem the codes in iTunes and push the apps via apple configurator.

Now there is 2 way of using your 2 accounts depending on if those iPads are for staff or students ? MDM or apple configurator. Let me know what your iPads would be for and I will explain how to do it.

If you buy apps on VPP store you can either get redeemable codes are MDM.

Hi there. Thanks for your fast reply.

We currently have only one account set up which is ict@schooldomain.

When we set the iPads up, we used this to join them to the iCloud.

The iPads are going to be used by both staff and students, but staff will not be wanting to install apps onto the devices or use them out of school, so it might be better to consider these as being used by students.

OK.

Well in that case, create a second account, connect this account to iTunes and authorise the account on the machine.

When you are on the VPP store (using your VPP account), if you purchase any apps, make sure you ask for redeemable codes. You will receive a copy by email of the codes or you will be able to download a csv file from the VPP store purchases history.

Once you have done this, use one of the codes to redeem the app on iTunes using your second account.

Import the app in apple configurator, which will detect that this app is a paid app ! Once the paid app is there, click on "add redeem codes" and that's it.

For free apps just use your second account and download a free app and import the app to apple configurator.

Here is an old link but really useful !!

Be careful about adding your VPP account on the iPads, students are smart and could either block your account or make some purchases....

Thanks again for your post. Ok, by 'the machine' I assume you mean the mac we are using to run Apple Configurator?

Also, when you say connect and authorise the account, do you mean connect it to my VPP one so they are linked?

Ok this is a problem. When I am on the VPP page, I select the App I want, but I am not given an opportunity to request redeemable codes.

Please see attached screenshots.

In terms of using the VPP account, I am not too fussed, the kids are primary school aged, so they are not clued up and our vpp account does not have a credit card associated with it at this time. If that changes, I will duly change the account linked to the iPads!

Thanks so much for your help.

1- Yes I do mean connect a new account to the mac and authorise it on iTunes. (in iTunes, store -- Authorise this machine or computer)

2- It's normal. When you purchase a free app you don't need to get it from the VPP store EXPECT if it's to add this free app to a MDM like Meraki for example.

In your case, all free apps need to be purchased on the mac, in iTunes via your second account. I basically have one account on the mac and a second one for the VPP store and the paid apps.

Ok, makes sense. I have just created a new account on our internal mail system. Will take a few hours to propagate, so I can't set up a new apple ID quite yet until this new email goes through. I will update accordingly on my progress.

Ok good luck.

my 2 emails addresses are ict@schooldomain and ictvpp@schooldomain.

You will see it's not that complicated, it gets crazy when you need to push apps remotely using MDM.

Let me know how it goes.
