Sanm2009 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I am considering ditching our authority provided broadband connection and getting a dedicated link from a major comms provider. They will provide a router, which will become our new gateway. I am just wondering how it will change our network? Would we need to change the IP range/scope in DHCP. I have no practical experience with routers, so any help will be appreciated.

snagrat Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Just keep the existing IP address range you have an ensure the new router's IP is on the same as the old. Unless you have VLANs, then no changes would be required.

Say the router IP address is 172.20.22.254 IP addresses available for clients on our network is 172.20.22.(1-253). If we wanted more IP addresses, would we need to configure this on the router?
Patrick Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Sort of. You'd configure VLAN's on the router but the actual addresses are being issued by your DHCP server i'd assume.
