Ok, so I have my nice new 2012R2 server up and running, so I thought I would try out the much touted integrated Server Backup solution...

Unfortunately it doesn't want to play with my old 2008 (non R2) and backup files from that even though I believe you should be able to backup other networked/remote computers.

Therefore, I have had to use the 'spare' disc which I rotated (to keep copies off site) to backup the 2008 server. Leaving me with 2 servers backing up overnight to their own disc and no copies being kept safe off site, a solution which I am much unhappy with (and will get me shot if anything happens).

I have a third disc which I thought I could amalgamate the two different backups onto and take that off site, however part of the Server Backup process formats the backup disk and makes it 'invisible' so I can not even automate the copy off process to another disc (as the backups are large).

Does anyone have a solution to this so I can use the Server Backup solution and get everything on to one disc (until I get the 2008 server upgraded to 2012R2 (hopefully in half-term), or is it time to bite the bullet and purchase third party software?
