Stone Server Hardware & converged infrastructure - Thoughts and opinions

We are looking at a server refresh over the summer and have been looking into the Stone SI. Basically a network in a box. It is using the converged infrastructure approach with the idea one box can effectively be the three hosts and SAN. Works the same as the Dell VRTX.

Just wondering if anyone here is using one or has any experience with Stone server hardware? Have always been HP in the past but budgets are getting smaller and smaller and this looked like a cost effective way of virtualising our servers using Hyper V.

A lot of our servers were built by Stone, and they are just standard Intel Chassis & Motherboard and Kingston Memory so nothing out of the weird and wonderful pile.

Did you get any of the SI boxes or are your standard servers? Cheers

Ours were standard servers, but I was tempted to see how much the SI box was as I would love to replace some of our aging 2003 boxes... but I doubt I'll be able to afford it this year.

We've been looking at this ourselves and it seems like a good idea, how long have STONE been installing these for Charli? We are a bit reticent to be guinea pigs Has it been installed in many schools already?

The solution was developed last year and we installed it in around half a dozen schools we were already working with over the summer, then it was officially launched at BETT this year. The release of our first case study on SI is imminent, so will post here when it's available
