[sims] An attendance report based on any present mark recorded during the day?

I wondered if anyone could advise me whether or not it is possible to run a report (lesson monitor or otherwise) which picks up any present mark during a day and considers this a count for the day? I have been asked for such a report for our Sixth Formers and so far I can't think of any way of doing it other than exporting attendance and manipulating the data in Excel. Unfortunately, I can't use AM/PM attendance reports as 50% of the students are on the system as guests but we still need to find a suitable report to monitor regular non-attendance.

 

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Excel might be your best option, and if you're going to do that, you could create a report using the reporting engine to look at attendance data, you might be able to formulate something close to what you need at the outset, and then if you do need to manipulate, at least it will already be in a nice Excel format.

Otherwise, maybe something like the Full Register report from under Whole Group Pupil Reports.

Thanks for your reply vikpaw, I'm glad I wasn't mistaken about there being an obvious lesson monitor report.

 

I've created an initial report but at the moment I'm totally stumped as to how I can assign the lesson marks to a period. I'm assuming it must be possible as I found a similar report on this forum which only picks up period 1 marks, but I just can't work out how it's done. This is what I have so far:

Let's just say your lesson marks are filtered for a date range. That report gives you a list of students and marks with a date.

Don't suppress duplicates and put it in Excel.

Make a pivot table and let it do a count of marks per date. I think it will do that. Anything positive is a presence?

Does it matter what period its for?

 

There is a report that will give you a list of chosen codes and print this out by period and date with class code. But you'd have to copy down the student name into the blanks.

 

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to achieve at the end. There must be some days when they don't need to be in at all. There is a routine for entering a pattern I think it can be applied to that situation but not entirely sure what it will do.

I'm not completely following what you are after, but if you trying to filter the Lesson Marks sub report for individual lessons you can do this using the ID field (in CES Third Party Fields.) This ID includes the start time of the period so you can muck about using an "ID Contains..." filter combined with a date filter.

 

So for example, if I want to run a report which shows me the room that a students is in during lesson 2 today I would have the lesson marks sub report filtered for todays date and the ID field filtered as contains 9:45am.

 

The best bet is to add the ID field to a full lesson marks report and have a look at its format and figure out how you can uniquely filter each lesson.
