working for an academy?

Hi

 

Just a random question, I have a interview at a primary school which is part of academy.. I wanted to know if anybody knows or is currently working for an academy? what it is like working as an IT Technician?

I work as Network Manager at an academy. My experience is that things have not changed at all [i was working here before we converted to academy status]

 

I guess it depends upon where you are: I am sure that you will get other replies where the experience of the member replying is completely different when compared with mine.

An academy school is a school... you shouldn't see much difference. Except you are employed by the Trust rather than the LA.

 

If it's part of a multi academy trust (MAT) you will be employed by the Trust... and HR, finance and possibly other functions will be centralised. You may find yourself deployed to other schools in the Trust on occasion; it really depends on the Trust. In a MAT there is inevitably a question of connecting the schools together. You probably have far more career development opportunities within a MAT.

 

You need to research your Trust's structure, they are all different, and find out what the opportunities are for you.

What Academy is it?

If you've worked in a school / LA before they may not honour your Cont. Service - you'll have to check with them if you have any.

An academy school is a school... you shouldn't see much difference. Except you are employed by the Trust rather than the LA.

 

This, the only real difference is if you are joining quite a while after the transition phase - over 2 years after is best. Other then that as others have said - no difference.

I've now worked for an LA school, a "foundation trust" school and an academy. Soon, I will be working for a multi academy trust. So far, I can safely say that they've all been basically the same. They're all schools, they all have their own positives and negatives.
