inkwell port replicators

In the school im in most of the pcs are strapped under the desk. This makes plugging in headphones a bit of a pita. Now the cables go through inkwells onto the top of the desk does anyone know of any "port replicators" I could get to move these ports somewhere staff/kids can easily access the socket and plug in headphones. I suspect if not it wouldn't be that hard to make them (id rather not just plug an extension cable in as its another cable a socket is preferable. infact can anyone see a reason why I cant just drill the plastic inkwell lid and wire in a headphone socket?
