Currently when a room is changed from a timetabled lesson to something else, we document them and distribute them to staff so they know if their lesson has moved. Am I right in thinking that if this happens with SIMS - it will be reflected on the relevant timetables of staff and pupils? I assume there's no "notification" of this - it would be up to the staff to check the room on their timetable? Cheers Tom
Linfit Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 This is the case if you are going to be using the Cover module to manage staff absence and room changes/exams. If you are not using the Cover module then temporary room changes are difficult as it requires a change to the timetable which is not actually created or edited in SIMS. If you are not planning on using Cover in the first instance you may be better sticking with your paper based system.

stgoodyeara Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Cover Module is great, You can publishes the cover including room changes in html with a single button press. I have ours set so that it exports the HTML pages to a folder on the server and then i just iframed these into a page on Moodle. It also updates the "my classes" panel on the home page with cover and (in the case of cover lesson) it highlights them bright yellow so at 1st login teachers can see if they are affected by cover. What i dont know is if it highlights the classes if there is a room change, never looked to check.

stgoodyeara Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Yes it overwrites them, what it does is it creates 1 html page for everyday of cover and then dynamically makes a "master" page with links in it. I have a self hosted VLE so i export the HTML to the web server that hosts moodle then use the permissions in IIS to make sure that only staff can access the directory that contains the cover pages. Then I-framed the master page it created in a moodle course so that i could build a link into the moodle interface
