Yosemite Profile manager setup assistance

Hi,

Anybody got some good guides on setting up Profile Manager in Yosemite. Have managed to install but struggling with Push notifications etc.

I am also trying to activate Profile Manager, and having a torrid time of it!

 

My server has a fixed IP, Open Directory is operational, and DNS is working properly according to all tests, but when I turn on Profile Manager, it promptly switches itself off again. When I visit the server's web page, the service is listed, but all I get is the message: "Profile Manager is turned off. An administrator can turn it on using the Server Application". changeip shows success.

 

Anyone have any ideas why this should be so challenging?

 

On the Profile Manager screen, there is an option under the heading Settings, titled: "Device Management: Enabled." In the Krypted.com site, he says to click the "Configure" button alongside this option, but my server does not show a Configure button! Where did it go? How do I get it back?

I would remove profile manager and start again. I did not setup Open Directory first but let it get setup during the setup of Profile manager. Make sure the Apple Push notification ports are open for all your devices

otherwise it will not push the profiles out.

What error(s) do you get in the Logs?

 

Assuming it's the same as 10.9, what happens when you try to start it via terminal sudo serveradmin start devicemgr?

The sudo cmd starts the service, and show 'RUNNING'. All good. After about 10 seconds, I ran sudo serveradmin status devicemgr and it reported 'STOPPED'.

Can you point me to where the log file is?

I'm a newby at this. How do you remove profile manager when its part of the Server app? Or should I remove the whole server app and reinstall?

In Finder, use the Go->Got to Folder and -> /Library/Logs/ProfileManager They're pretty verbose though so might not be that helpful. Does something stick out?

 

I don't think you get the "configure" option when you have Device Management already enabled. My server not being on Yosemite though I feel I shouldn't assume too much.

 

No, you can't remove it as such but you can reset it OS X Server: How to reset Profile Manager to its original state - Apple Support and you want the 'To reset Profile Manager and clear all data on Yosemite' bit

Brilliant! Wipe worked and now I can get a configuration button. Much thanks!

 

I even managed to distribute apps from the VPP to devices. I'm a happy bunny.

OK hopefully last question on Profile Manager. All seems to be working fine. Can roll out policies, enrol devices etc but I have amended a policy and removed 3 settings

and now in Active Tasks the policy to remove settings is either pending or in progress for 5 users. I can still amend an existing policy by adding but not remove settings.

Any ideas?

I would do one of 2 things.

 

Just leave it. Eventually it should work, I think the user just needs to log onto that machine. I forget exactly the fix last time that happened.

or

Cancel the task and remove them manually. On the client /Library/Managed Preferences and just drag them to the trash

Looks like http://krypted.com/mac-os-x/using-profile-manager-3-in-mavericks-server/ is not available - 500 server error - Can anyone else recommend a good setup guide for Profile Manager and AD intergration under Yosemite?
