D0liver Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Is there any client based helpdesk software? Staff won't use the online crm so maybe a client that sits on their taskbar that they can report issues with? If not I'm guessing this could be easy to make myself? D
Geoff Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 We use Request Tracker. You can interact with it entirely via email as an end user. We just have a generic 'IT Helpdesk' email that people can direct support requests to. https://www.bestpractical.com/rt/
D0liver Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Will have a look at that but I do want to test a client based one.
Edu-IT Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Why would a desktop program be any different? A form is a form, no matter how they get there?
D0liver Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Because it would be open for them constantly. The staff use our current lan messenger so that's where the idea is from. I was thinking of making a little vb.net programme to test.
clareq Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 We put our web based helpdesk as a tab on the home page of IE - they still use e-mail - even if it's to report a problem with a web page on another tab.
synaesthesia Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Sometimes you need to tackle the problem rather than avoid it. Set up a proper helpdesk and MAKE them use it. Make it unavoidable; easy links everywhere, and email polling. OP Smartdesk works very well for us, they can either use the webpage which is linked from the home page, our website and on the desktop as an icon, or they can email helpdesk@ which automatically creates a ticket for them. You're there to help them teach and students learn, your not there to do it all for them.
