Arthur Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 This is essentially just a rebranded version of Acompli's E-mail & Calendar app that Microsoft purchased last year. Download (Android / iOS, iOS VPP) / Office Blog Today, we announced the release of Outlook for iOS and a preview of Outlook for Android. If you have an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet, chances are that you're using the built-in email and calendaring capabilities of your device. Why use the new Outlook app instead? We're glad you asked! Despite the smartphone becoming a primary screen for reading email, most of us perform only basic email triage on the phone, delaying the rest to deal with on the computer. Activities like sorting through large amounts of email, managing your calendar, and sharing files require too many steps or multiple apps that don’t work together well on the phone. The new Outlook app brings together the core tools you need to get things done—your email, calendar, contacts and files—helping you get more done even on the smallest screen. Outlook works with Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Outlook.com (including Hotmail, MSN), Gmail, Yahoo Mail and iCloud. http://a.pomf.se/bwdghk.png https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cBfywn_CnU
Marshall_IT Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Just installed and it's infinitely better than the outlook Web app! I'm hoping i can push out settings like i can for the default ios mail app.
fiendishlyclever Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I'm still waiting for an app that deals with shared calendars etc. You would think this functionality would be heavily used in business and education circles - come on Microsoft. This app is more of a general mail app (cashing in on the Outlook brand name) that a mobile version of the desktop Outlook experience) PS There are a number of security concerns about the cloud backend..
Marshall_IT Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 MS have stated that the app will get a lot of development over the next few months, the same way the office apps have. What are the security Concerns?
fiendishlyclever Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I think it uses cloud services between your mobile device and the email server. There is more on the register and Microsoft blogs.
computer_expert Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) What are the security Concerns? It seems to store your credentials in the cloud if you use the iOS version. https://blog.winkelmeyer.com/2015/01/warning-microsofts-outlook-app-for-ios-breaks-your-company-security/ Edit: not sure if it does the same for the android version though Edited January 31, 2015 by computer_expert
Marshall_IT Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Hmm, not good! If how they're at kat salting the passwords! Im alright as I use MFA and have had to generate an app password. I've already submitted a change request to add support for MFA.
