Hi all,

We have some surface pros that I'm installing office on. I need to create shortcuts on the desktops for all users. I have never done this before, normally use ranger but, not going to install Ranger on these machines.

I have moved them all into a OU created a new GP gone to computer config > preferences > shortcuts > new Shortcut.

Action:CREATE ?

NAME:?

Target object?

Loaction:Desktop?

What do I fill in the fields with?

thanks

Never had much luck doing it with the shortcuts option in GP preferences before. However you can achieve the same using the Files part instead:

1) Create the necessary shortcuts on one machine.

2) Copy these to a network share, such as \\domain\netlogon\MSsurface\shortcuts

3) In the GPO go to Computer config --> Preferences --> Windows Settings --> Files --> New file (repeat this for each shortcut)

4) Action = Create. Source file = \\domain\netlogon\MSsurface\shortcuts\Microsoft Word.lnk

NOTE - you don't need quotes around anything if there is a space in the path, it still works. Also put the .lnk extension on the end!!

5) Destination file = c:\users\public\desktop\Microsoft Word.lnk (the filename must be the same as the source)

Just repeat this for each shortcut.
