Map Network Drive over internet

Does anybody know if this is possible....

 

Say i have an accounts server and i want users to be able to have a mapped network drive anywhere when they are connected to the internet, So when i go to map a network drive i could do '\\http://www.domain.co.uk\%username%'

 

What ports would i need to allow through? I've done 139 and 445 but that doesn't work...

 

Anyone have any ideas?

I wouldn't recommend doing it the way you want to there, presumably you need to open smb ports.

 

I think you'd be better off looking into "direct access" in server 2012R2 though, that'll do what you want in a secure manner

You want to do this from a VPN. The ASUS home routers have built-in VPN clients in them. I use one on my phone to WOL computers in the house when I'm out.

Exposing a machine's bare bottom to the Internet like that is an accident waiting to happen.

 

The only other way I'd think about going about this is port forwarding RDP to your home computer and connecting with RDC setup to expose local drives. It can be found under the Local Resources tab > More button on the bottom.
